Cony 360 Engine Rebuild

Cony 360 Engine Rebuild

A lot of work to be done. The passenger fender was cracked when the car was purchased.

All of the wood on the back of the car was rotten.

Eventually the entire car was stripped to bare metal and plastic.

Waiting for new wooden parts.

The new wooden parts have been installed. The cracked front fender is still a problem.

The metal doors are in good condition with no rust.

All of the wood from the rear axle back has been replaced. The floorboards are next.

New rear woodwork.

After a long time waiting for other cars to be taken care of its time to work on the Sachsenring. The rest of the items in the engine compartment need to be removed before the body and fram can be separated.

The engine compartment with all the components removed. At the back of the compartment you can see the bar that the pedals ride on.

The rest of the electrical system and everything behind the dash had to come out also. The only item left is the steering wheel and column.

Once the steering column is removed the body can be lifted off of the frame. The body is suspended from a hoist that rides on a beam in the roof of the garage. The entire body is attached to the frame by a total of 6 bolts.

As the body goes up the frame is revealed. The engine and transmission were left in place to be cleaned with the frame.

Front and rear shots of the frame before the first cleaning.

Its a cold day but at least it isn't raining.

A couple detail shots before the first cleaning of the frame. The shot on the left shows a bent body support. The frame will need to go to a frame shop for this to be straightened. On the right the back of the transmission and the steering rack. The steering rack will be wrapped during this cleaning.

After the first cleaning of the frame. A lot of dirt dust and sand blasting media came off. The frame goes back into the garage to have the engine and transmission removed before the trip to the frame shop to be straightened.
